AD recently had the honor of being Pre-Derby guests of our favorite Louisville shop, Gift Horse. We joined Original Makers Club and Garden and Gun magazine at the historic Farmington Plantation in Louisville for an amazing evening of wonderful music, refreshing beverages and, of course, cheese. We couldn’t have asked for a better setting and a better group of friends to spend an evening with.

AD is on point again…

Business takes us to Phoenix

The latest chapter in the Artfully Disheveled journey brought us to the sunny retreat of Phoenix. The timing couldn’t have been better with the rain and cold of Cincinnati in February. We had the great pleasure of making some new friends, meeting with some old ones and exploring the Phoenix / Scottsdale area. If you are ever in Phoenix make sure to stop by and say hi to our friends Steve and Andi at The Duce for a work out in the ring, some great military inspired threads, a delicious bite served out of the old Airstream or simply to enjoy a delicious cocktail on the patio. We also had the luxury of holding one of our meetings while hiking the trail to Tom’s Thumb in Northern Scottsdale. A great hike with good conversation and many a plan hatched. Look for more from the guys at AD in the coming months. We feel like we may be on to something. Here is to taking advantage of our time on the road (even if our rental car smelled of urine).

Good for the Soul

I recently experimented with a 3 day juice cleanse with the goal of starting 2012 off right. I have to say it was a huge disappointment and not nearly as rewarding as I had hoped.

Fortunately, I was able to find time over the holiday break to tackle another project which was a much more masculine and refreshing experience. I escaped to the garage and tackled the project of refinishing and replacing much of the woodwork in my home.

Getting outside on a crisp day, cranking up some classic rock and sanding away years of wear and tear on the banisters around the house offered a much more holistic cleanse than a set of green juices ever could. The pride and satisfaction one feels at the completion of a project which involves your own hard work and sweat is unparalleled. Too often today we take the easy way out. We make excuses about time or energy. Make the time, don’t cut corners and reap the benefits physically and emotionally.

A little sweat equity sands away years of wear and tear on the banisters as well as the soul.

You may even find a little inspiration for your look in the soundtrack. Because the only soundtrack to woodworking is classic rock…
